S&D Week: Jun 17 - Jun 22


From Monday June 17th to Saturday June 22nd, SCORCH Radio will produce various events to highlight the language of Soca and Dancehall daily across Trinidad and Tobago and the vast digital landscape and including their many listeners across the globe.


The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and The Arts (MTCA)-sponsored "Caribbean Music Conference is the centre-piece of the S&D Week and runs from 8 am on Monday 17th and Friday 21st at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) and at Movie Towne, Invaders Bay on Tuesday 18th and Thursday June 20th, 2024.

 

The Caribbean Music Conference will assemble various local, regional and international music industry stakeholders for a series of in-depth panel discussions, feature presentations and showcase opportunities daily.


The Lord Kitchener Auditorium at NAPA will shine light on the opening “Youth Day” hosted in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service.

 

Opening remarks will be delivered by the Minister of Youth Development and National Service and MP for La Horquetta, The Honorable, Foster Cummings before the day’s activities begin in earnest with an engaging cast of moderators, panelists and presentations.

On Day One, the CMC will discuss and explore topics such as "Careers in Music", "Trinibad Music and Culture" before delving into a talent showcase featuring the MYDNS' "Youth On Stage" finalists performing live.

Day two on Tuesday June 18th will focus on the "Evolution of the Caribbean Music Industry" and "Charting Success in the Caribbean" with a fun and informative "Soca Storytellers" segment in the afternoon, followed by a Songwriting Workshop with Soca hit-maker, Jelani "Pops" Shaw and the one and only "Empire State of Mind" songwriter, Angela Hunte.

Returning to Movie Towne for Day 3 and NAPA for the conference closing Day 4, participants and attendees can expect more fulfilling and engaging discourse and presentations by leading industry experts from Audiomack, Tidal, COTT, Spotify and more on topics such as: "Soca Music and Festivals", "Building Artistes from the Ground Up", "Collaborations", "Artiste Development", "The Business of Soca and Dancehall Music", "Building Your Brand on Social Media", "Global Trends In Caribbean Music" and more

Minister of Tourism, Culture and The Arts, The Honourable, Randall Mitchell is expected to be joined by a special guest act as he delivers the closing address on Friday evening at the special Networking and Closing Event to end the conference segment officially. Jada Kingdom for StinkNDutty: Neon Jungle


The June 19th Labor Day in Trinidad ("Juneteenth" in the US) holiday will serve as a fun mid-week break from the conference aspects of the S&D Week with an early morning explosion of music, color and revelry dubbed "Stink N Dutty: Neon" to be held at the Queen's Park Savannah from 1 am - 9 am on Wednesday.

 

Jamaican Dancehall sensation, "Jada Kingdom" Murphy will also perform alongside three-time Soca Monarch, Aaron "Voice" St Louis as the highlight of this Neon event. The pair also recently released a sultry collaboration entitled "Human Nature", which is highly anticipated and expected to be performed for the first time by the two together live on the Neon event stage at the Queens Park Savannah.

 

"This is not a party, not a concert," Voice enthused. "Neon will be a blockbuster movie and Jada and I are coming to shut the place down!"
